Importance of Typhoon Policy

Typhoons can disrupt transport and be dangerous to students and teachers when coming/leaving school.

LEVEL 1 (grey) - No warning

School open as usual

Absences will be marked as “un-excused”

LEVEL 2 (yellow)  - Advisory

School Open as Usual

Be careful and check your local surroundings

Absences will be marked as “excused”

Warning Level 3 (red) - Warning

School Open

Students Recommend Stay Home If Possible

Teachers/Staff - Working as usual, but be careful and check local

Surroundings.

Absences will be marked as “excused”

Warning Level 4 (purple) - Emergency

No students/staff.

Absences will be marked as “excused”

Warning Level 5 (black) - Extreme Emergency

Absences will be marked as “excused”

No students/staff.

Absences will be marked as “excused”

Day Before Typhoon

The safety officer shall monitor weather conditions and if a typhoon is expected in the area follow this typhoon policy.

5PM - Send a message to all parents/staff via Circle/slack assuring them that we are watching the weather and what to expect the next day

Morning of Typhoon

6AM - check the forecast warning level for 6AM~4PM (school) and 3PM~8PM (afterschool)

6:30AM - Send a message to all parents/staff via Circle/slack with the maximum level expected and the action taken according to the level system

Day of Typhoon

Each Hour - check the forecast warning level for 6AM~4PM (school) and 3PM~8PM (afterschool) and take action according to the level system.
If students are sent home, notify parents via circle and phone if needed or at risk.

If staff are dismissed early, notify all staff via slack.

Absences

Under level 2~5 absences are marked as “excused”.

If no notification of absence is given by parents, follow up via phone and circle as per the attendance policy.

Students are at risk of getting stuck on transportation.
