Silk Museum
As part of their studies into ancient Chinese civilization, the second graders took a field trip to the local yokohama silk museum.
They found it interesting to see silkworms, learn about sericulture, examine countless cocoons, and see the threads from the cocoons being employed in the making of garments and clothes.
Students scrutinized everything, even tried their hand at weaving, and marveled at how the silk trade travelled across the world through the Silk Route.
Finally they gazed at several beautiful kimonos and outfits made with silk as they concluded their history unit studies for the term.
